Jake Thomases, Mike Rose and I sat down and recorded the first podcast of
the girls basketball season. It will become a weekly feature at LoHud.com
and you can find it each week at The Sixth Man.
Jake and I gave our season previews for Classes AA, A, B and C, breaking
down the favorites and contenders. At the end of the podcast we identified
players who we expect to impact Section 1 this season.
Enjoy…and check back for more soon.

I heard in your pod cast that Lourdes was moving up to AA. Is this due to enrollment?
Tax Man…It’s not based on enrollment. Lourdes is moving up to Class AA this season because of a new rule in Section 1 that determines the class of a catholic or private school team by evaluating each program’s success.
I would link to a story I wrote about the topic during the state basketball playoffs last year, but it’s no longer on the web.
Basically, the new rule has an impact on four teams in Section 1: Keio boys soccer moved from Class C to A; Ursuline girls basketball from Class A to AA (Ursuline was supposed to drop to A this year based on enrollment); Lourdes girls from A to AA; and Kennedy boys basketball from B to A.
Section 1 reviews each case well before each season. Lourdes, for instance, has to present a profile on each of its boys and girls teams, including records, and the info is based on the past five seasons.
Ursuline went 6-14 last season, but that didn’t matter. That season won’t impact the Koalas profile until the upcoming review.
Does all that make sense?
Josh,
Thanks for clearing it up. I’m in favor of moving up any program if they totaly dominate a class regardless if they are public or private… It gives other teams a chance.
Josh, you guys did a great job with this! I’m looking forward to upcoming podcasts.

Rich
