Girls basketball in the Lower Hudson Valley

It’s over, you better start waiting on line for Sunday

White Plains wins, 64-52. Scarsdale made it close in the fourth, cutting it to eight, but couldn’t get it any closer.

More details to come…

At one point in the third, the lead was cut to eight on – of all things – a 3-pointer by Jackie Alemany. But Scarsdale didn’t capitalize, especially in the final 90 seconds when Flooks and Aguirre went to the bench to prevent them from picking up their fourth fouls.

***************************************

OK, Scarsdale played better in that quarter but still missed far too many opportunities. The Raiders have actually grabbed a bunch of offensive rebounds, they just haven’t had a lot to show for them.

White Plains has still been in charge with its zone defense, which has forced Scarsdale to shoot jumpers. Unless the Raiders start hitting more of them, they won’t be able to come back to win.

On the other end of the floor, it’s pretty much been all Kim Adams and Liz Flooks. Adams has 12 points, including two 3’s, and Flooks has 14 on 8 of 9 from the free throw line. The Tigers had to withstand a 2:06-drought to end the half after Adams and Angelei Aguirre were forced to the bench with two fouls apiece.

Foul trouble is something to watch in the second half, although you rarely see White Plains’ players foul out. Scarsdale may need that to win.

Jackie Alemany and Christine Yankou have led the way for the Raiders so far. Alemany has eight points and Yankou has 10, including two 3’s.

Scarsdale is 7 for 39 from the field and Alemany and Yankou are the only ones with field goals.

White Plains has shot over 50% but has 12 turnovers.

OK, more to come…

***************************************

One of White Plains’ better quarters of the season, no doubt, but it was indicative of the teams two regular season meetings. The tigers zone defense forced Scarsdale to shoot from the outside and the shooters have failed so far: 1 for 10 from 3 and 2 for 16 overall.

Kim Adams and Liz Flooks have both been tremendous so far.

More later…

After the game I was heading downstairs in the elevator and as luck would have it coach Patrice Wallace- Moore of Mount Vernon happened to be riding in the same elevator. As we were heading down she turned to the person she was traveling with and said, “the stage is set”. I don’t think Grantland Rice could not have put it better, good luck to both teams, this one promises to be a real barnburner.
