After jumping out to a 17-point lead, the Falcons rode it to their second gold ball in three years, 49-36, over Putnam Valley.
Jen Canale, a senior forward, had 13 points and 10 rebounds to win MVP.

The Falcons have extended their lead, just when it looked like they had gotten flustered. Ashley Huber grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to snap a five-minutes drought, then Emily Brauer just hit a 3 behind a Desheha Waring screen to push the lead to nine.

That’s right. Two quick baskets by Jylan Mayo have cut the lead to four. It was once 17 points.

OK, it looks like we may have a game in the fourth quarter, as a 15-6 run by the Tigers has closed the gap. They’ve spread the ball around and begun to have success. Magnus has switched its defenses but has started to allow some good shots – the same one put valley wasn’t getting early.

Wow. We’ve seen some defense in a few of these games, but maybe none better than this. The Falcons have held the Tigers to just four baskets all half. They’ve used a zone and Putnam Valley just can’t get shots around it.
OK, more later.
*****************************************************************
Putnam Valley’s having trouble getting loose on offense, in particular Christine Kemp, who has taken just two shots so far. Nicole Scott has four points for the Tigers.
On the other end, Magnus is deliberate but has gotten good shots. Desheha Waring scored the first five points of the game.
More later…

PV gave there all in the 2nd half and made a boring game in the 1st half to a good game in the 2nd. AM still has a lot of holes to fill to go deep into the quarters. I wish them luck they are the best around here and are well coached
