Girls basketball in the Lower Hudson Valley

Cue you know who…

April
7

Uh oh, sounds like RICHARD MCHUGH time.

I talked to Jaki Goldner yesterday. And “as you can tell from my short story today”:http://www.thejournalnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=SPORTS02 about her signing with Binghamton, the Somers senior really had her heart set on playing ball at Iona. Ultimately, she didn’t like the situation and opted to continue her college search, a search that led her to Binghamton.

For those of you who don’t like to click on my links, here’s some quick info on Jaki:
— She had eight scholarship offers…Albany, Stony Brook, Binghamton, Iona, Duquesne, George Mason, Robert Morris, and Central Connecticut.
— She joins Liz Flooks as the only LoHudder girls hoop star to land a Division I scholarship.

OK, I’ll have the pre-preseason Top 10 this week, just not on Monday. That is the day I officially slide into my late 20s.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH IONA COLLEGE? I GUESS IT COMES DOWN TO YOUR MAJOR. READ THE RECORDONLINE.COM ARTICLE FROM FRIDAY ABOUT THE LATE MAGGIE DIXON. DAVE MAGARITY BLASTS AWAY AT MARIST COLLEGE. MARIST WAS GIVEN A GOOD SEED IN THE RECENT NCAA TOURNEY. OHIO ST. HAS HAD TROUBLE WINNING A FIRST ROUND GAME AND THEIR POINT GUARD WAS INJURED .WHY MARIST DOES NOT PLAY ARMY IN A HOME AND HOME SERIES IS BEYOND ME.THE GAMES ,IF PROMOTED, WOULD FILL BOTH LOCATIONS. ARMY AND IONA BOTH SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE NCAA TOURNEY. THE EVENT NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED AND THE NIT NEEDS TO BE A PRE SEASON EVENT. THE NCAA RUNS IT NOW DUE TO A COURT RULING.THEY PAID THE ECAC BIG BUCKS.

Marist is far beyond the cailber of Army. Marist advanced to the sweet 16 whie Army did not qualify for the tournament. If Marist is to keep their tournament resume strong, than they need ot schedule non-conference opponents of a higher caliber than Army.
