Schedules, schedules…we've got the schedules
- August
- 15
Hey everyone. Yours truly is NOT in the best of spirits.
Why you ask? Well, I’m currently battling an unforseen head cold, the likes of which stuffs up your nose and makes your voice sound like a character from the Muppets. Needless to say…1) I’m tearing through tissues, and 2) I’m not happy about it.
Anyway, here we are in the middle of August. It’s a sunny, 80-type day. In all likelihood, most of you have just finished your summer basketball seasons and are more worried about going to the beach than going to a road game on a 20-degree day in January. Well, to each his own. But I just got a look at the Section 1 schedules for the upcoming season and I wanted to encourage you to give them and look and pass along what games you’re looking forward to.
You can find the schedules here. After you get to the page, click on “Game Schedules.” Then make “Girls Basketball” the sport, put “Varsity” as the level and fix the dates to your liking.
When you check it out, let me know what games you’re looking forward to. Here are five that caught my eye:
5. Lourdes at Mount Vernon, Jan. 3: The Knights are going to be good. With Nadia Duncan, Kwinnyata Mercer, and another-year-older Lynasia Frazier Mount Vernon should compete for the Class AA title. This will be a true test, when a team with a lot of experience comes to the MV.
4. Woodlands at Albertus Magnus, Dec. 17: Are you kidding me? A matchup of maybe the two most exciting players in Section 1, Alaina Walker vs. Porsha Postell.
3. Pearl River at Albertus Magnus, Feb. 1: Rockland’s most competitive rivlary will be renewed at least twice this season.
2. White Plains vs. North Rockland, Mount Vernon, and Scarsdale, Jan. 3-11: The Tigers first really tough stretch. We’ll see how they can do against a brutal schedule without Kim Adams and Liz Flooks.
1. Mount Vernon at Ursuline, Feb. 4: I think this game will provide a favorite for the upcoming Class AA playoffs. These are my two early favorites to win it all.
