Schedules, schedules…we’ve got the schedules

August
15

Hey everyone. Yours truly is NOT in the best of spirits.

Why you ask? Well, I’m currently battling an unforseen head cold, the likes of which stuffs up your nose and makes your voice sound like a character from the Muppets. Needless to say…1) I’m tearing through tissues, and 2) I’m not happy about it.

Anyway, here we are in the middle of August. It’s a sunny, 80-type day. In all likelihood, most of you have just finished your summer basketball seasons and are more worried about going to the beach than going to a road game on a 20-degree day in January. Well, to each his own. But I just got a look at the Section 1 schedules for the upcoming season and I wanted to encourage you to give them and look and pass along what games you’re looking forward to.

“You can find the schedules here.”:http://sportspakdb.lhric.org/mainindex.asp After you get to the page, click on “Game Schedules.” Then make “Girls Basketball” the sport, put “Varsity” as the level and fix the dates to your liking.

When you check it out, let me know what games you’re looking forward to. Here are five that caught my eye:

5. Lourdes at Mount Vernon, Jan. 3: The Knights are going to be good. With Nadia Duncan, Kwinnyata Mercer, and another-year-older Lynasia Frazier Mount Vernon should compete for the Class AA title. This will be a true test, when a team with a lot of experience comes to the MV.

4. Woodlands at Albertus Magnus, Dec. 17: Are you kidding me? A matchup of maybe the two most exciting players in Section 1, Alaina Walker vs. Porsha Postell.

3. Pearl River at Albertus Magnus, Feb. 1: Rockland’s most competitive rivlary will be renewed at least twice this season.

2. White Plains vs. North Rockland, Mount Vernon, and Scarsdale, Jan. 3-11: The Tigers first really tough stretch. We’ll see how they can do against a brutal schedule without Kim Adams and Liz Flooks.

1. Mount Vernon at Ursuline, Feb. 4: I think this game will provide a favorite for the upcoming Class AA playoffs. These are my two early favorites to win it all.

How about Beacon versus Lakeland on December 4th to start the season for both teams. Should be a solid test for both teams as to who are contenders in class A

  2. Chris

Horace Greeley at Ossining , Dec 12th , should be an early statement game for both these teams.

  3. Chris

P.S. From my other post. I thought Alaina Walker plays at No. Rockland? Am I mistaken or did she transfer? If its a transfer issue is section 1 going to address it the same way as when a student athlete comes from a private school into the public domain? What exactly do the rules say? Most of what I have heard on the subject is just hear say to me. Your input would clear up some questions that I have.

  4. Parents Don't Get It

When Haldane opens up against Blind Brook they will be doing it with a new coach.

  5. insider

I herd that Lynasia Frazier is no longer at Mount Vernon, she moved out of the state, is this ture? also, Nadia Duncan was looking great with exodus playing in NYC as was Shelby Coon playing with her team the New York gazelles!

  6. bears

do you think that the Briarcliff Ossining matchup will b good? I think briarcliff will win with too much of a force from Coon and too many solid players but it might be interesting. also, what about briarcliff vs. Lourdes? and it is upsetting that the bears are not playing magnus! that would have been a good “forshadowing” for playoffs, oo well! and to insider, I saw Shelby play in fall league and she looks amazing, athletic but strong and has handle too. Watch out!
