Info on the Haldane coaching search

October
4

I just talked to Haldane AD Susan Reid about the Blue Devils coaching search to replace Rich Desiderio, She said there are four candidates for the job and she hopes to interview them next Friday.

It sounds like she hopes to hire a coach no later than Oct. 24th. There’s a board meeting that night and Reid hopes to get approval for the new candidate at that meeting.

I asked why Desiderio wasn’t retained but she didn’t have much to say other than that “he wasn’t asked back by the board due to confidential reasons.”

I’ll obviously have more on this matter in the coming weeks. Sounds like the new coach won’t have much time to work with, which will not help Haldane in its quest to regain its stronghold on Class C.

  1. Rich Harrinton

I would be happy to have Rich Desiderio coach my daughter at any time.

  2. Kennedy Mom

Rich Desiderio did coach my daughter and it was the best year she ever had. She’ll take tough but fair anytime, she flourished under his tutelage…

  3. X BULLDOG

He was not retained because a couple of the parents complained about his side line antics(of which I had no
problem with) and their kids lack of playing time. I think
one of the seniors had it in for him also. My daughter
played for him last year at Haldane and will play for Haldane this year and next. She did not play much but coach “D” was more than fair and up front with his players.
I think she would have played alot more this year. He even wrote a letter to her saying he would always help
her in sports and life if needed. He will be missed by myself and my daughter and I hope he does well with what
team he coaches next. As far as the new coach goes I hope
he knows how to motivate because Blind Brook has 6 returning kids who are seniors and will be tough to beat.
Not to mention Hamilton and others. I hope they can win Class “C” for Brittany Shields who is a senior and a great
kid. Nobody deserves it more than Britt.

  4. Some Parents Ruin it For All

X BULLDOG it is always about playing time. It gets dressed up in “concern about sideline antics” but at the end of the day it is about playing time. I guarantee the parents who were concerned about “sideline antics” are the same parents who were unhappy with little Susie’s playing time. That the administration fed into it is the really sad part. I don’t know him personally but by all accounts desiderio is someone who cared deeply for his players both on and off the court. Some parents, not all, care about one player and one player only and that is their precious little child. The squeaky wheel sadly usually gets what they want and all too often their motto is “If this coach doesn’t see her greatness then we will find someone who will!”

  5. X BULLDOG

You are correct in eveything you said “Some parents”. As far as i know the A.D. at Haldane( who is well liked by the
parents and kids) did not even hear his side of it. He never had a chance.

  6. No Coach

Haldane is smart to not have a coach this close to the beginning of the season. I think it’s a strategy that might take hold in a lot of other schools. If they are smart they will wait until the day before the season to hire a coach. Too many cooks spoil the soup as my grandma used to always say!

  7. Insane in the Membrane

What in the name of all things is Haldane doing? They had a very good coach who worked his ass off and cared about the kids and they dumped him without giving the guy do process. Maybe he was too theatrical on the sideline but that’s something that they could have asked to tone down. But they kow towed to dopey parents. Now it is October 19 the season is three weeks away and they have no coach for a storied program. How exactly is that helping the kids? It is absolutely unbelievable what is happening to athletics in this country. Unbelievable and sad…

  8. X BULLDOG

I’d like to ask Susan Reid the same question.

  9. Insane in the Membrane

Day 100 in “Haldane Watch” and still no sighting of a coach.

  10. the real scoop

Insane, you mean 365+ days and still no sighting of a coach at Haldane

  11. The Fake Scoop Exposed

At least for one year Haldane had a ga roo!
