New Somers coach is…

October
24

Richard Vogel.

Vogel was the varsity coach at Croton-Harmon in the past. Somers AD Roman Catalino just told me Vogel was approved at a board of ed meeting last night.

So now we have new coaches at Somers (Vogel), Mahopac (Jerry Fioretti), and Dobbs Ferry (Eric Bartel), with only Haldane still to come. I’ve left a couple messages with the Haldane AD, Susan Reid, with the hope she can shed some light on the timetable of the search.

More to come…

Is Haldane the favorite in Class C this year? Does them not having a coach until the last minute impact how they will do? Will they hire a coach before November 12?

  2. X BULLDOG

Insane- Haldane is not the favorite in class c this year. Blind Brook is. With Dobbs Ferry moving to class B Haldane
does have a slim chance. Blind Brook returns 6 juniors from
last year who are now seniors. Even though they lost their
2 best players to graduation the other 6 either started
last year or saw a good amount of playing time. It will be
a rough road for Haldane but don’t count them out. Anything
is possible with Brittany Sheilds leading the way. They need help from Scotti King, Liz Milner, Avery Zuvic,Holly
Whiston and Emilly Marsh to name a few. You are correct though they need a coach NOW!!! Also, With Holly Whiston and Avery Zuvic playing volley ball(The team could go to the
state championship game) those 2 will get a late start.

  3. Insane in the Membrane

What is Haldane waiting for? Who is still out there that they could hire?

  4. Parents Don't Get It

Word is Haldane hired someone. Don’t know anything about the person or specifics…

  5. X BULLDOG

What about you Josh? Heard anything on the Haldane coach?

  6. Just Insane

I heard he coached JV at Peekskill last year…

  7. X BULLDOG

    J.V. what, boys or girls?

  8. Just Insane

He was the JV boys coach last year. Don’t know a whole lot about his coaching accumen? As of right now there is no coach and I don’t know if an offer has even been made. Sounds like they made a colossal mistake getting rid of the coach they had. Does the board of education or the superintendent give a crap that they could be ruining the season for the girls many of which are seniors?

  9. C. Davis

Just Insane: A colossal mistake is an understatement. But leave it to the Haldane Board of Education to get involved with a decision that should have been made by the current Athletic Director: SUSAN REID.
The timing of this coaching change couldn’t have been worse for the Haldane players. Waiting a week before the start of the 2007/08 season to name a new Head Coach clearly shows how important the Board feels about the basketball program.

In all fairness to last years Head Coach “Rich Desiderio he should have been told he wasn’t going to be asked back two weeks after the end of 2006/07 season. Instead they allowed him to run the summer Basketball program to prepare for Haldane’s upcoming 2007/08 season but then felt it was time to send an EMAIL in September telling him that he wasn’t going to be asked back.

Does the Haldane Board of Education want someone who doesn’t raise their voice from the sidelines? I would ask the Board of Education to take a ride down to Pearl River, Blind Brook, Ursuline or Ossining and see how great coaches get the best performance out of their girl’s teams. Fourteen (14) Sectional Titles and Haldane can’t seem to hold onto a Head Coach…...

Good luck to the new “Head Coach Kenny Haskins..
