A quick post today, inspired by “Mount Vernon’s Kevin Jones,”:http://www.thejournalnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071114/SPORTS02/711140412 who committed to West Virginia today.

I was told today by someone who knows a lot about local talent that Holy Child’s Sophia Aleksandravicius may be one of the most sought-after recruits to ever come from the area. My reaction to that was: “Wow!” Here’s someone I had never heard of a year ago, now she’s making a name for herself all summer swatting shots and grabbing rebounds like crazy. It just goes to show you how much a player or a team can develop.

Just like I said Monday, there may be a White Plains-type dynasty looming somewhere around Section 1.

Who knows? There may be another Sophia out there, too, just waiting to develop into the type of player who makes D-I coaches swoon…

Doubtful. What has she done. I havent seen her show up and I saw her play AAU recently too. Maybe in a few years but doubtfully sought after right now. Good player, not that amazing.

  2. Josh Thomson

Baller…She averaged 18 or 19 PPG, 15 RPG, and nearly 10 blocks as a sophomore in high school, then made the Empire State Games team and the Metro Classic team. At the ESGs she scored 16 points in a game against Western, which won the gold medal and had a frontline loaded with Division I players. One is considered one of — if not THE — best senior in New York state.

But above all, I wrote the above post based on the knowledge of someone I trust. That was good enough for me to think Sophia has a bright future. I know the coach at UMass was among those who expressed interest this summer.

With her height, about 6’4”, she has received much interest.. It couldn’t happen to a nicer girl and family. Much luck to her…

  4. Poco

Besides UMASS who else is looking at her?

  5. bball fan

I’ve heard Holy Cross has courted her recently, even offering her a full ride…

  6. The Bball bandito

Only the tip of the iceberg. Not a typical 6ft 4in. Watch this girl in transition. Watch the girl shoot threes. Watch the girl go into her Junior Year and lead the section in scoring Again. Better chance at the pros than the Jones’ of Peekskill and Mt. Vernon. Just the facts.

  7. Coach D

I got to know Sophia and her family during AAU and she is a great kid with a load of talent and a great work ethic. She’ll play D1 somewhere.
