Great game. Could’ve been even better were it not for 51 fouls. (Anyone there would tell you that.)
Also, Briarcliff beat Woodlands handily, 85-53. I was told by a couple people who were there that it wasn’t even close.
Because it’s late and I haven’t posted a video in a while, I just taped a quick video about Ursuline-North Rockland. In the video I talk about the game  including the final crazy moments  and mention a few other key results from yesterday and today.
The video is about eight minutes long…I know, I know…and I was a little too close to the camera…and I probably need to shave…but all in all I hope you enjoy it.

Good recap of the Ursuline North Rockland game. Seems to me that the referees have become large parts of what is happening on the court in 2008.They are having a major impact on the game. Why is this so pronounce at the start on this season? Are teams concerned on how the whistle blowing affects these games? I think it is a horrible game when fans are talking about what the officials are calling and not about the excellent play of the players. I know the refs can’t please everyone; some of the fouls calls last night were bad and what about the technical on the Ursuline bench.
The esteemed Bandit thinks that Section I really needs to rethink this new rule they have implemented where the referees get paid by the foul. I understand that not paying them a flat fee but paying them $2.00 a foul seemed like a good idea at the time but hey so did trading Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi and how did that work out for the Mets?
Until the section gets good refs and tells the oldtimers it’s time to move on you are going to get games like this.
The only ones penalized here are the good defensive teams.
When a ref makes a call from behind half court ‘cause he can’t or won’t run then the game suffers.The lst 10yrs. have been horrible but nothing is ever done!!!
Lets throw Beth Wooters into the same bowl of embarrassing soup as Vaccaro and Ricci. They all are so caught up in themselves that they lose control of their actions in the name of winning at all costs.

Bandit and Dansky. Feel free to take the courses, past the tests and get your stripes and whistles so you can earn your unwarranted criticism just like all the refs.
OBSERVER, you know what I observed last year? A young woman doing a sectional boys game at County Center. I also observed her doing a great job. What I didn’t observe was anybody doing half the job she did in any of the girls sectional games. You know why she isn’t doing girls games? Because when she tried to move over the old, old, old boys network told her she had to start at the modified level.
If you’re a ref and your not competent retire. If you’re a ref and you are competent then implore your buddies to get the hell out of the way and let someone in there who can do the job. If you aren’t a ref I suggest you go go observe some of the garbage that is masquerading as referees. I believe the esteemed bandit has made his position on this subject quite clear. I will now retire to a bubble bath and a cigar!
And while I’m at it MOFO your homework assignment is to look up the combined winning percentage of the three coaches you so callously trash in this blog and come back and tell us what it is. Go on now and do what the Bandit sez. The king has spoken!

He is a 50 year old wannabee coach who couldn’t hack it in real coaching or was never given the opportunity he so richly deserved so he coaches 6th graders and comes on here and bashes real coaches? He probably coaches AAU and can recite his winning percentage within two seconds of being asked and spends his nights polishing his trophies with turpentine, envy and jealousy. Am in the ballpark MOFO? You keep on coaching those stellar 6th grade teams and leave the real coaching to the adults. Bandit out…

BACK TO POINT. Does a good winning % give a coach the right to DEGRADE a high school athlete??????? Can’t get mind around that one can you.
I believe I have made my point.
If I bought you breakfast and gave you a ride to work every morning. Would that entitle me to smack you in the back of the head with my laptop everytime you did something I didn’t want you to do? Certainly Not.
FYI: To set the record straight the girls and boys officials associations are two seperate boards recognized by the state. Therefore there are specific rules that are mandated allowing the officials to officiate. With that being stated there are also additional rules and regs set down by consititutions and bylaws that govern the officials associations and there movements.
In addition, the coaches yes the coaches control the movement of the officials and their levels they can officiate by their ratings, so it looks like if anyone points fingers out there speak to the coaches on the validity of how they rate the officials. It seems to absurd that this is the norm, how does a coach know if an official is a good or bad official other than the calls that are made or not made. That is like having students grade their own tests…
Yes, the NCAA and NYS State Women’s Basketball Officials Association and IAABO have set down specific rules for this season on bench decorum, physical play and coaches’s conduct. So I am glad that some people are noticing the outstanding job the officials are doing thus far.
Don’t forget any of you so called wanna be whistle blowers are invited to attend our officials candidate clinic in the spring for boys and girls basketball officiating, it might not hurt to pick up a rule book or go on line and find out about the point of emphasis. Maybe you should speak to a professional before the comments are just tossed out into the ring.

Lets be clear – that “teriffic” female official you were talking aout who had to start at the modified level on the women’s board – she is no different than any other official – you work your way up on each board. I guarantee you The #1 womens official would not start at the top if he/she decided to go over to the men’s board. Furthermore, in order to move up, officials need to pass a closed book test. The official in question, as everyone knows, failed that test miserably two years running.
Do officials make bad calls – yes, more bad calls than good, nope, and do their calls affect the outcome of the game – 99% of the time, NO. 50% of the fans will love a call, 50% will hate it. Such is life, at the end of the day, the girls still need to put the ball in the basket – hit a layup or a free throw.
I’m glad someone finally put the Ursuline bench in their place. Hopefully their out of control coach is next. Ursuline plays physical and dirty – I’m surprised only 51 fouls were called – there were probably another 51 not called.
And for the moron who put down the 6th grade coach or AAU coach – if it weren’t for them you jackass, these girls would still be playing or have the foundation to be playing at the level they are now. You sound like a bitter ex-coach, and not a good one at that or a loousy official who is bitter that people are moving up faster than you.
As a big east ref with numerous ties to Westchester County, the schools and the refs – Refs – keep up the good work – you are following the directives of the NCAA (which for all of you that dont know this, girls basketabll plays NCAA rules), you are cleaning up bench decorum, enforcing the coaching box and cleaning up the hand checking – all major points of emphasis this year and last.
I have tried to put it nicely or not so bluntly but here it is: The girls refs SUCK. They are out of position, they are out of shape, they don’t know the rules, the have an agenda…They keep getting worse and worse every year. If you are a Big East ref and you think they are doing a good job than I pray for the teams in the Big East.
As for MOFO. If you think these coaches are Degrading players than I suggest you look up the definition of DEGRADE and come back here and post it. While you’re at it find a list somewhere of all the players these coaches have had and see how many have graduated college and are leading productive lives. Than tell us all knowing one how many are in sanitariums because of the undeserved DEGRADING they had to endure at the hands of these psychopaths masquerading as coaches. Bottom Line the coaches have the hammer, they wanted it they got it, they get the officials on their games as they rate them. What criteria are they using??? If they won or lost? If so, here is the problem… ’
Point the finger if you are pointing one at the correct problem. Maybe its time to go to 3 person crews to clean up the game and follow the college lead that has been set over 10 years ago.
All of the coaches need to teach to the rules, not how to take advantage of their opponents or officials. Officials are suppose to ref according to advantage and disadvantage situations.

If you believe that the referees are doing a swell job than who is the Bandit to crush your dreams. The Bandit is nothing if not sentimental.
But Unbiased I refuse to let you keep believing in Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy and The Easter Bunny. Even the great and all-knowing Bandit cannot let you, at your age, keep believing in everything you want to hold sacred. So letting you believe that the zebras are doing a bang up job is where the Bandit must draw the line!
