Girls basketball in the Lower Hudson Valley

Must-see games, Dec. 31-Jan. 6

December
31

More leagues begin play this week, not a moment too soon…

Wednesday, Jan. 2: Albertus Magnus at Nanuet, 4:30 p.m. — The Golden Knights get another chance to defeat a Rockland rival.

Wednesday, Jan. 2: Woodlands at Pelham, 4:30 p.m. — League III-B should be one of the most competitive in Section 1 this season. I have no idea who is the favorite, but this game should help us learn about these two.

Thursday, Jan. 3: Lourdes at Mount Vernon, 4:15 p.m. — Two great backcourts go head-to-head for a teams with Class AA title aspirations.

Thursday, Jan. 3: White Plains at North Rockland, 6 p.m. — A rematch of one of the best regular-season games from last season, although the cast of characters has changed drastically.

Friday, Jan. 4: Mahopac at JJEF, 6 p.m. — Here is the Indians chance to prove their undefeated start isn’t just the product of a pretty soft schedule.

  1. OBSERVER

JJEF visits Ursuline on Thurday at 4:30pm. Also, Greeley now has 1 loss.

Just to let you know the nanuet albertus game was changed to either Thursday Jan 3rd or Saturday Jan 5th.

  3. The Poo Poo Bandit

The Bandit believes in Fioretti’s Fighters! Mahopac will be heard from!

  4. Smokey

Smokey thinks the Bandit and the Mahopac Indians will be shot down

I wouldn’t be surprised if Lourdes beat Mount Vernon. I was very impressed with their back court when i saw them play Briarcliff. If they can pound the ball down low a little bit more, they can beat MV. #3 the freshman on Lourdes is quick as lightning and can shoot the lights out. If #3 and #12 can not force up bad shots and give it to the dominant big girl down low, they have a good shot at MV.

  6. Rich Harrington

Does anyone know who won the Albertus Magnus tournament ?

  7. RocklandBall

Albertus won 60 to 40 against Clarkstown North. Had a lot of non starters play. Not sure why it was not called in??? Or the kids that played did not get credit for that game on the team stats page of Max Preps.

Some feel that if the team star does not get enough points the stats page on Maxpreps is not updated. BTW the stats from the Burke Catholic game were not updated for the individual players too.

  8. RICHARD MCHUGH

THE OLL-MT VERNON GAME SHOULD BE ON THE NEWS FOR LO-HUD.COM ON THURSDAY. MAYBE A LIVE FEED WITH TAP AND INTERVIEWS? HOW ABOUT A BIG CROWD????????/WHO IS COLLEGE BOUND FROM EITHER TEAM?

  9. fan fan

Do you know if Albertus and Nanuet are on today? The journal news seems all screwed up with games both teams are listed as playing elsewhere, but I heard they were still playing at Nanuet. Any help????

  10. The Poo Poo Bandit

The Bandit thinks Smokey bears watching. The Bandit is too elusive to be shot down and The Indians of Mahopac are for real!

  11. RocklandBall

    fan fan,

No Albertus Vs. Nanuet game today. I was told that has been rescheduled for Monday 1/7. Next game AM plays is this Friday against Dobbs Ferry.

  12. Smokey

The Mahopac (pronounced: ma-HO-pac) Indians will “po po the bed” against JJEF Patriots.

  13. The Poo Poo Bandit

Breaker 1-9 Breaker 1-9 I got my eyes on a Smokey and I think he’s smoking! Don’t sleep on the Indians!
