Ossining over Beacon today, that should shake up those rankings a bit.

Great game in Ossining but kinda sad that the game went how it did. It was foul city!! Five players total fouled out (3 Beacon and 2 Ossining) You hate to see two of the top players from each side sit out full quarters in a match up like this(Beacon’s Biordi & Ossining’s Vallach). Anyways, just a few points that I’d like to mention about the game.

    1) Beacon was up 20-9 after the 1st quarter but Ossining fought back strong to take a 2 point lead into the half.

2)A huge mistake in the game made a big difference in the middle of the game for Beacon. There was a foul called against Beacon and either the refs miscommunicated the player’s # over to the scorer’s table or the people doing the score book failed to mark the scorebook properly. Anyways, it ended up giving Beacon’s Ally Biordi her 4th foul when the foul called wasn’t even called on her. Considering Biordi is less than 50 points shy of scoring her 1,000 point and that call forced the Beacon coach to bench her for most of the 2nd quarter and all of the 3rd quarter, I’d say it was a huge misfortune for Beacon.

    3) Ossining won 70-63. They had several chances to put the game away in the 2nd half including going up by 11 points with under 6 and a half minutes to go in the 4th Q. Beacon cut it to as much as 2 points but were never able to cut it any closer.
Bottom line—>Beacon went 20 for 39 from the line (That includes 9 for 21 in the 4th quarter). Ossining went 24 for 31 from the line.

    4) Anyone at the game wondering who is that #3 on Beacon? Yeah she’s pretty good! Kara Tancredi is her name.

  3. BBall Parent

While pondering the best teams in the state, perhaps it is time to ask a question of all of the basketball parents who avidly follow their kid’s teams.

WHY DO WE PUT UP WITH ABUSIVE COACHES?

You know who I mean; the coaches who humiliate, denigrate and are just downright nasty to their players. Is it fear that playing time will be cut or that it is justified somehow because it will toughen our kids up? We would not let any other person in the world speak to our kids the way we have all heard coaches scream at our teenagers. The behavior is unacceptable in every other aspect of society, except perhaps military basic training. Do we believe that fear and hatred of the coach somehow binds the team together to play better as a unit? I am anxious to hear from other basketball parents without naming names, that is not my intent. Many coaches need to hear that parents have had enough!

  4. another parent

The answer is simple – Because our School Boards and our Athletic Directors are willing to put up with it.
    The better question is why?
If a parent comes forward with a complaint they are labeled as “trouble” parents or that we are being too soft on our daughter.
There is a big difference between being hard on players and being abusive to players.
Many well known, successful coaches in Section 1 have gone too far.
Reminds me of Woody Hayes, He was a great coach, but he hung around too long, expected too much from his players, and finally snapped.
Many of these coaches live and breathe for their sport and their team. They put in long hard hours trying to win. Most times they want the victory more then their players do. No matter what anyone else says, there is more to coaching then winning but like most things today, we only recognize the “winners”
If a coach does not respect his players, the players will never respect the coach.
Are all of the ADs out there listening?
Please hire a coach who will teach our daughters without abusing them.

    FT / Foul correction
actually Beacon was 20-45 from the foul line and Ossining was 21 for 34. you are right threre were far too many fouls called and both teams actually had 3 starters foul out. Both scorebooks had Biordi with 4 fouls and the scoreboard did as well. Beacon did not realize it until someone else fouled later and that was the confusion.

  6. BEAFAN

GREAT GAME OF BASKETBALL TO WATCH CONGRATS TO OSSINING FOR BEATING A REAL GOOD bEACON TEAM!!AGREE WITH JUICE WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE ALL 3 SENIORS GUARDS IN THE WHOLE GAME AND YOUR RIGHT TANCREDI KEPT BEACON IN THAT GAME WITHOUT HER STARTING GUARDS GOOD LUCK TO BOTH TEAMS IN THE COUNTY CENTER

  7. Juice 51

bball fan, thanks for the input but we were keeping fouls ourselves…the score keepers messed up and gave the wrong ‘Ally’ on Beacon the foul. Hence why Beacon changed score keepers at half-time. It sucks that that had to happen because no coach would keep a star athlete on the court when they have 3 fouls in the first half. Miscommunication in either case. Which reminds me, I know Kelsey Vallach fouled out in the 4th quarter but what was Coach Ricci thinking putting her back into the game with under 3 minutes to go in the 3rd Quarter when she had 4 fouls?!
