I’m off tonight so I enjoyed a nice meal at a new Italian restaurant in Irvington with the lady. A little penne with broccoli rabe and sausage for the gentleman, and a little zuppa di pesce for the lady. (Not sure if I spelled that right…but I’m not looking it up.)
I just returned home but I logged on to check the scores. Here’s what I noticed:
HALDANE 60, DOVER 54: Close game for the Blue Devils, who actually trailed by a point at the half. Brittany Shields scored 27 points, putting her just 26 shy of snapping Jen Moran’s all-time school scoring record. … Dover flies under our radar a bit here, but it has had a good season. Don’t let the Dragons’ 7-7 record fool you because they’ve played a pretty tough schedule for a small school. … I’ll be on hand as Shields goes for the record on Wednesday at North Salem.
OUR LADY OF VICTORY 45, HACKLEY 42: Unfortunately, I don’t have any specifics outside of the box score, but this was obviously a nail biter late. OLV came from behind in the second half to win. The Jags received five 3’s from Nicole Detko, who had 18 points. … Detko is the leading 3-point shooter in the area with 42 on the season. … I’ll see OLV vs. Maria Regina on Friday night.
ALBERTUS MAGNUS 72, NANUET 54: The Falcons moved to 3-0 on the season vs. Nanuet. They were up by 16 at the half and kept the lead all game. Alaina Walker led the way with 29, but what really jumped out at me was that Felicia DaCruz had 19. She’s just a freshman, and it was her career high. … I’d have to do the math, but this pretty much seals the top seed in Class B for Magnus, unless it slips against either Irvington or Pearl River.
There were a few other scores of note. Jake saw Tappan Zee 45, Clarkstown North 45, and I imagine he’ll comment on that later. … Apparently, North wants in the first annual Sixth Man Section 1 Challenge, but the Dutchies were intent on holding their spot in the field, pretend though it may be.

AM is the real deal..
...So is Brittany Shieldssss
MIMAs IN Irvington… How was it?
confused…That wasn’t it. It was a small place up the hill from the train that used to sell fresh pasta. I couldn’t even tell you the name of it, but it was very good.
you cant tell the name josh? Interesting!! Up from the train? Come on JOSH
confused…I could tell the name, sure, but I honestly don’t know it. ... I know that it’s right up the hill from the train, not on Main Street. That’s all I can tell you, sorry.
Josh,
Shields is actually 12 points shy of snapping the all-time school scoring record of 1,776. I guess we will see you Wednesday at North Salem..
Albertus had another impressive performance tonight, but the Walker girl was getting fouled almost every posession in the second half and the refs just watched, the reffing in the county is brutal.
I was at the Beacon-Walter Panas game where Beacon jumped out quickly despite an 11 day layoff and won impressively at Panas. They got the usual from Tancredi and Biordi chipping in with 12 points a piece. What was impressive was Tancredi picked up two quick fouls early in the game (6:30 to go in first quarter 2nd foul a terrible call should have been a charge) which relegated her to the bench for the entire first half. The team received tremendous contributions from senior Frankee Ryan with 11 points and rapidly improving sophmore Ally Rola, with 8 points and 7 rebounds. The most interesting stat line of the night belonged to Point guard Brianna Melilli with 2 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists (not the kind of double double you see every day.) Also the two junior varsity call-ups Gloria McNair and Brittany Romanelli combined for 11 points and 5 rebounds in their debuts.
After the game I raced up North for the Dover Haldane game. This was a rematch of a game that was much closer than the score in the first match-up. Dover led much of the game behind solid shooting from Ally Emerson (sophmore) and Michelle Djonovic (senior) For three quarters Djonovic also did a really dolid job on Brittany Shields. I was very impressed with Dover who has only 7 girls on their team but hung around with a state power in Haldane. Dover Coach Kim Dennin does a great job with those girls, it is too bad that Class B is as loaded as they are this year because if not they could make a run to the County Center.
Can you clarify what the above means?
ballboy – If you go to the Beacon Vs. Kingston game let us know your thoughts on the Kingston point Guard. Maybe you have seen her play? I have never seen a kid with such amazing ball handling skills!! I saw Beacon play only once this year, and I don’t think they will have a problem with Kingston, but it should be interesting.
This is off topic, but because I’ve seen people asking about girls after graduation here is a story about Brianna Peterson (North Rockland/Catholic University). She was Female Basketball Player of the week in their conference:

This is the link.
Rocklandball,
I have only seen the point guard play once, and it was not with Kingston but with an AAU team. I will check in after the game on Friday and give you my opinion (whether that is good for anything or not). I do know that Kingston is a solid team that record does not indicate how good a team they are. They have played a very difficult schedule to counter balance the fact that there league is a little down this year.Beacon is certainly not taking them lightly. I know they also have a girl who is an amazing shooter. Through last week she had hit close to 50 3 pointers on the season, and earlier in the year surpassed the most 3’s in a career by a Kingston player.
Skippy…First of all, I was dumb enough to write that the final score was 45-45. Obviously, it was 46-45 TZee, as Jake later told us.
That aside, I was just referencing the Westchester/Putnam vs. Rockland 5-on-5 Section 1 tournament “I brought up in this post the other day.”:http://sixthman.lohudblogs.com/2008/01/26/the-saturday-links-jan-26plus-the-debate-of-the-year/
Josh,
Did you dine with Rich Harrington and discuss the seedings in Class B while you were eating dinner?
I’m sure that would be a real turn-on for the Mrs!
My Mrs. doesn’t know what either “Class B” or “seedings” are…so I think that’s a no.
50 3 pointers is terrific! I just looked on max preps and they only lost to Burke by 4 so you’re right it should be a good game. It would be nice if all teams listed the players stats on MP, Kingston did not have the data uploaded.
Easy Josh, I knew it was simple error on the score, no big deal. I just didn’t understand what you meant by “pretend though it may be..” You are the writer, but I am guessing TZ is hanging on by a thread. BTW, its probably a good thing your Mrs doesn’t know what Class B or seedings are. Everyone needs to take a break, including you!
I vote to have ballboy replace the Poo Poo Bandit as our resident nut.
ballboy
thanks for the brief synopsis of those 2 games. It gives a reader a little more insight into the strengths of the teams than just reading the score & the high scorer. Much appreciated!
Rocklandball,
Kingston does not have stats on Maxpreps but if you go to the Times Herald Record online they have stats posted there. Not as detailed as Maxpreps and I don’t know if all the stats are updated constantly but at least it gives you some stats.
Smokey,
Did I do something nuts? or is that a compliment
Thanks ballboy! I’ll check it out.
Smokey leave me and my nuts out of your shenanigans!
