Top 10 post players

Someone (Clyde from Westchester actually) asked me on today’s show who I considered as the top 10 post players in Section 1. Because of time constraints I only listed five, so here’s the expanded list I came up with.
His point was that we spend a lot of time talking about guards here, and he wanted to know about the girls who toil on the low blocks.
Fair enough…so I went through the top 5 on the show today. Here is my complete top 10, in no particular order.
 Mary Abrams, North Rockland
 Shelby Coon, Briarcliff
 Gillian Felix, Mahopac
 Brittany Garrett, Ossining
 Taylor Jackson, Horace Greeley
 Tori Jarosz, Lakeland
 Kristin Schmidt, Suffern
 Shelby Sferra, Ursuline
 Brittany Shields, Haldane
 Shanyce Stewart, Mount Vernon
Note: There are a few borderline cases I didn’t include because they are more wing players who sometimes play in the post. Among them: Nadia Duncan, Mount Vernon; Tara Gabelman, Irvington; K.C. Jentzen, Nanuet.

Josh Thomson has done some of everything since joining The Journal News in March 2003. He began working for the Gannett weeklies during the winter of 2002 as a freelance writer. He joined the daily staff soon after and has since covered various high school and pro sports. Away from sportswriting, Josh lives in Westchester and spends his free time either with his fiancee, Sarah, or expertly managing his various championship-winning fantasy sports teams. He's visited 21 major-league baseball stadiums and insists that Fenway Park and Wrigley Field are the best by far. Josh graduated from Carmel High School in 1998, then went to Boston University, where, in 2002, he received a degree in communications with a minor in history.

i like these choices, josh. i’m not sure whom i would have excluded, but i would have included o’sullivan from somers and tapio from brewster.
how about the top 10 point guards and shooting guards while we’re at it?
what about the Holy Child kid?
Mac…The question asked about Section 1 posts. Obviously, if we included everyone I’d probably consider three names: Sophia Aleksandravicius of Holy Child, Alexandra Osborn-Jones of RCDS, and Erin Riordan of Maria Regina, who’s an excellent shot blocker and very active.
on vacation…Maybe another time with the guards.
There are obviously a couple other forward close. Anyone else have suggestions you think may be top 10 worthy?
HEY, DOBBS FERRYS GUILLIANO IS FOR SURE A DOMNANT FORCE. SHE IS ONLY A SO. AND A MAIN REASON DOBBS HAS WON THIER LAST 7 GAMES….KEEP AN EYE ON HER…...
Jentzen might deserve to be in the top 5, she can flat out play, Id take her over Coon
I thought that since you include those teams in your top 10, then you would do the same for this list.
Josh,
Jenzen should be on the list and Guillano, Tapio, O’Sullivan, and Faicco are close.
Mac…That’s fair. I was just following the question that was asked.
Smokey…Is Jentzen exclusively a post player?
Josh,
Good point
Once again you forget to name any Dutchess county Players!!!Does Kara Tracredi ring a bell!!!
Andy…I’ve seen Tancredi play a few times. I’d consider her along the mold of Duncan and co., more of a wing player who plays in the post sometimes than a true post player. I tried to draw that distinction, but I guess you misunderstood me.
Anyway, that’s why she’s not included.
For sure Giuliano. Shes a big time star in the post, recently soring 30 pts against Hamilton. Shes unstopable down there averaging 15 pts a game. I’ve seen her play against Shelby Coon and without a doubt she belongs up in the top 10 with her. Josh you need to rethink your list.
i know she’s a guard, but how about alaina walker as a top ten post player?
Being from up north, I don’t know alot of the players you have named. But what about JJEF’s McIntyre? She is averaging 16pts and 11rebs per game. And helped JJEF in wins against both N Rockland(Abrams)and Mahopac(Felix) this season.
