Class A seedings…at the moment

February
7

Here’s what I have for Class A as I sit here on a Thursday afternoon. Obviously, this is subject to change over the weekend:

1. Beacon (15-2), 3.941
T2. Tappan Zee (12-5), 3.0
T2. Spring Valley (10-5), 3.0
4. Lakeland (12-7), 2.789
5. Byram Hills (11-6), 2.647
6. Pearl River (10-7), 2.471
7. Brewster (10-8), 2.333
8. Pelham (10-8), 2.222
9. Rye (9-8), 2.118
10. Peekskill (8-8), 2.0625
11. Somers (8-11), 1.842
12. Nyack (8-10), 1.777

Others: Yonkers is 7-10 and must win its season finale vs. Ursuline B on Friday to qualify for the playoffs. … Ardsley is 6-11 and has three games left. It must win two of three. … The TZ and Spring Valley tie will likely be decided when they play on Sunday. … This could very easily change. For instance, Lakeland and Brewster each face Greeley this weekend, and Pearl River still has two very tough games left: today vs. Irvington and Saturday vs. North Rockland.

    class c at the moment

    1. haldane (16-3), 4.39
    2. blind brook (14-5), 3.47
    3. tuckahoe (11-9), 2.78
    4. valhalla (11-9), 2.65
    5. hamilton (9-10), 2.21
    6. keio (8-12), 2.15

  2. Sliza Walk

Byram hills is 13-6 with a game left on saturday which should alter their seed quite a bit. Also with tappen zee playing Spring Valley one of them is going to have a loss. This will change the seedings.

  3. Juice 51

Good stuff Josh, I did the seedings myself today and I have to say my numbers exactly matched yours. I made a couple of errors but your stats helped me figure my mistakes out. I want to thank you for posting these seedings and for posting how the seedings are officially calculated. I’ve always wondered EXACTLY how it was done.
Also, I’m just curious…once the official seedings do come out…are you go to write up a “predictions” page with all of your picks for each classes’ tournament? I think it might be fun if you guys did a little bracketology competition on the blogs for the readers. It would be fun I bet. Just a suggestion. Keep up the good stuff with your coverage. I only wish Dutchess County sportswriter’s did as well a job as you guys do.

  4. bball

Pearl River will beat either TZ or Spring Valley – look for a Beacon – PR final at the county center.

PR is battle tested in their league and non – league they already beat TZ.

Watch out for the 6th seed!!!

  5. s.

the young peekskill team took Tappan Zee down to the wire today, look for them to give whoever they draw a good fight come playoffs

  6. PR Vs. Becon

It will be Beacon with either lakeland or Pearl river in the finals. Don’t know a lot about Lkeland but Beason would beat PR by 10 or over

  7. CrazyCrazy

Lakeland-Beacon would be the best match-up with Lakeland avenging as early season loss to repeat as Class A Champions. Early season match-up did not include Jarosz or Pappalrdo. Hornets win that match-up by 10-15 points. Beacon coach is clueless, thank god she has a good team. She should have beat Pearl River last year, had them, but made 0 adjustments!!!!

  8. Skippy

Speaking of young, TZ beat Peekskill with a freshman, two sophs and two juniors..not chock full of seasoned veterans..Pagnani was out for the third straight game with an ankle aprain.

  9. Smokey

    Josh,

Let’s have a little contest to see who can pick the most winners in each bracket.

  10. sideline

    Josh,
How do the playoffs work? Do the top 2 teams have a bye for the first round or does it depend on the number of teams that make it? Does it seem like there are very few teams that qualified this year or is this the usual number?

  11. Josh Thomson

Smokey…We can discuss that next week. I think it’s a great idea.

sideline…All playoff brackets work just like the NCAA tourney…

    First round:
    No. 16 at No. 1
    No. 9 at No. 8
    No. 12 at No. 5
    No. 13 at No. 4
    No. 11 at No. 6
    No. 14 at No. 3
    No. 10 at No. 7
    No. 15 at No. 2

Now, in the case given above – if only 12 teams make the class A field – that would mean the top 4 seeds would have first-round byes.

Hopefully, that makes sense. Let me know if you have further questions.

  12. BBallNut

Interesting comments out here. Personally, I think the biggest sleeper team is Brewster. They have two very strong guards in Thomas and Quattrochi and they are getting some great play from their freshman post palyer Tapio. The other two starters Fallon and McNamara do not get much press but they are real strong defensive palyers. Remember, they beat Lakeland 3 times this year, the last time when Lakeland was healthy and on a 5 game win streak. They had a rough start lossing some close games; nobody came close to blowing them out. The major weakness is no bench but if the starters stay strong and out of foul trouble there will be some surprising coming down the road.

  13. Mr Chairman

Do we need to have a seeding meeting ? Josh has it all

  14. sideline

Thanks Josh. Just one more thing. Assuming 12 teams then 5 plays 12 in the first round. Does that winner play #4?

  15. Josh Thomson

Sideline… Yes that is correct. No. 4 would play the winner of 5 vs. 12.

  16. bball

T.Z.’s jv is 16 – 0 and has 3 legitimate player as well. ALL 8th GRADERS!!!

  17. Juice 51

CrazyCrazy, you really think Lakeland would beat Beacon by 10-15. Very bold statement! Not very rational if you ask me but still very bold. Time will tell. Also I think Beacon played a good game last year down at the County Center but PR was clearly the better team. It was meant to be a PR/Lakeland final last year, they were the two top teams in the section.

  18. RocklandBall

TZ JV will have one loss after this weekend. But you are right they have two very good 8th graders. Not sure who the last one is.

  19. BBallNut

    Hey Josh,

I really think you should have some sort of etiquette policy on your blog. Who are these knucleheads making negative comments about the players and coaches. These girls are out there busting thier butts; obviously some better then others, they should not be subjected to these ignorant comments.

  20. disgusted

I totally agree with you BBallnut! I think there should be some type of screening process. These girls are working their butts off and people who don’t even know them are talking about them. This sight is a terrible idea and i think people should really get a grip and find a hobby! This sight should have some morals or shut down completely. I thinks it’s terrible to treat children like this.

  21. Concerned Coach

I agree, please lay off the kids. Rag on the coaches all you want, but lay off the kids.

  22. Bball fan

Just a comment- People are just pointing out their comments on this blog. Its the end of the year, and this is when the season gets rough. (playoffs) Even though i do agree it could be hurtful, if you do not like what is being said on here, then dont read it. Just go out there and play the game like you should. I agree with the fact that it is great locker room material, andI think Beacon is a great team. I also think that the two guards on Lakeland do have some potential, but Lakeland is still trying to rebuild their team with 5 seniors leaving last year.

  23. on vacation

    beacon pride,

not only are you rude and insensitive…but you are also misguided and flat out wrong about lakeland. first of all, those guards can play. they can handle, drive and kick it out and they play great D. fallo is one of the best coaches around. he gets the most out of every team he coaches and has done a fantastic job with this year’s lakeland team. you will have your hands full with them if you are fortunate enough to get the chance.

  24. BBallNut

    Bball fan,

You obviously do not get it! This is High School basketball. Perhaps you and beacon pride need to get a life; maybe even go back to high school and learn the 4 R’s.

This is not about “If you do not like what is being read out hear do not read it”. The kids read this stuff too, they should not have to read comments made by Knuckleheads that obviously do not understand the big picture of sports and pobably could not even play at the level that these kids play out.

How about, if you have nothing constructive to say, keep your darn comments to yourself.

  25. Bball fan

    BBallNut,

I know that these kids do work their butts off and try hard. But so what if someone is saying something about a player. It was going to come out sometime or another.

Without beating up on these kids, my guess is Beacon vs. Lakeland in the section finals, with Beacon becoming section chmaps. Lakeland is still trying to become a great team. Keep in mind that Lakeland has many young players on their team, and in the next few years, are going to be very impressive.

  26. Just A Fan

I think that Lakeland is an overrated ball club…if you can force the point guard to the left, it will cause many problems because it is very weak. Also, the shooting guard number 4 does not have a soft touch on her shot and you can leave her open. Though the number 14 who comes off of the bench can shoot the ball very well from behind the arc. The way to shut down Tori would be just to double the post from both sides when she has the ball, she does not kick out and worries more about her numbers then what goes on the scoreboard.

  27. BBallNut

wow – what a whacked out group of people out here.

‘Just A Fan’ obviously knows nothing about this game. I happen to know Tori very well. The last thing Tori cares about are her numbers. She is doing her best to support her team mates even though they are not yet able to play at her level.

As to BBall Fan not understanding why we should not get on the kids, obviously the intellect is limited so I will not waste amymore time discussing the topic.

As to who wins the section this year, clearly Beacon has a very good team but so does Greely, Ossining, and TZ. But there are no truly dominating teams like LakeLand was last year. There are some sleepers out there too. Peekskill is very tuff when Roberta is on the court and they are big and athletic. Perl River’s defense is smothering and Brewster beat Lakeland 3 times this year and only lost to Greely by two in their first game. It’s going to be interesting

  28. Just A Fan

Sorry people “BBall Nut” knows everything. I mean i say the Lakeland group is not that good but I do not know much he/she says “her team mates even though they are not yet able to play at her level.” but i don’t know this game I guess, what we said sounds pretty similar. I do not care let the numbers speak for themselves.

  29. tz fan

    rockland ball,

jv county championship is over, and tz girls walk away remaining undefeated.
