Player of the Week for Week 10

Come on…I know you haven’t forgotten.

Yes, yes, this is absurdly late. I don’t know what to say other than…Blame the Giants. Their incredible Super Bowl left me mentally spent on Sunday, so I got the week off on the wrong foot.

At any rate, this week’s choice is one for the coaches…to all of you who preach fundamentals and feel like your words fall on deaf ears, here’s one bound to make you happy…

Player of the Week, Week 10: Alex Venuto, Ossining — The sophomore guard had a terrific week last week in victories over Hen Hud and Peekskill. She averaged 22.0 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 3.0 SPG, and 2.0 APG, but it was her free throw shooting that stood out most. Venuto made 19 of 19 in the two games, including a remarkable 17 of 17 in an 87-77 win over Peekskill, which was feisty after its lineup returned at full strength.

Venuto scored 33 points vs. Peekskill, but her FT shooting made it all the more impressive. Ossining obviously needed most of those to hold the Red Devils at bay, so you know the freebies came in the clutch. Clearly, it is on the short list of the performances of the year.

Runners-up: Bianca Kowgios, Maria Regina (18, 7, 8, and 7 vs. Victory); Brittany Shields, Haldane (broke school scoring record).
