The winner of the quarterfinal picks contest is…..a five-way tie! Yay! The audience is on their feet!!!

No wait, ties stink. Nobody likes ties. It’s true that five of the 17 entries picked 11 of 14 games correctly, but we can’t stand for a five-way tie. So I’m instituting a tiebreaker based on the scores you predicted. Whoever chose the most accurate margins of victory is the winner.

Here’s how I did it. Take Mount Vernon’s 77-55 win over Suffern. The margin of victory is 22 points. Let’s say you picked Mount Vernon to win 65-35, a margin of 30. Your score for that game is the difference between the two numbers (30-22=8). I totaled the score for each pick and added them up. Whoever’s number was lower (i.e. picked closest to the correct margins of victory) is the champion.

So after tabulating the score for all five winners, the champion is…(drumroll)…Sam! Sam, your score of 143 was eight points better than second place. You’ve won the prize of a guest blog on The Sixth Man.

On a side note, I originally thought WP Pat was the champ. His score was lower than anyone’s. But then I noticed that while he originally picked North Rockland to beat Ossining, he later amended that and switched to Ossining. Sorry WP Pat.

Here are the full standings. Next to the five winners I put their margin score.

Sam 11-3 (143)

mike hoops 11-3 (151)

HD 11-3 (151)

BUCKETBOY 11-3 (155)

Always stick with your first thoughts! I picked WP to lose in 2OTs too. Should have gone with the home team! Shoulda coulda woulda….congrats to Angelei Aguirre and the White Plains team on a huge win.

Jake: I'm honored and, naturally, I think your tiebreaker system is brilliant. Please let me know how I go about submitting the blog. Thanks.

  3. mike hoops

    Close but no cigar!

I should have known not to pick Ossining and their overrated record, Class A schedule hurt them IMO.
