Girls basketball in the Lower Hudson Valley

Class AA girls semifinal: No. 10 White Plains vs. No. 6 North Rockland

February
28

10:05 p.m. – Here are some final stats from the game that just ended:

Angelei Aguirre had a game-high 18 points. Teammate Donika Rexhephi had 17 points.

Katie Daly led North Rockland with seven points. The Red Raiders shot just 12 of 52 from the field as a team.

So there it is. Another day at the County Center in the books. Hopefully, tomorrow’s games will provide a little more excitement. I will be at the state boys swimming championships in Nassau County (I’m very thankful it’s not in Buffalo like it has been the past two years) the next two days so unfortunately, I won’t be around. I will be back with you on Sunday to blog about all the championship games.

Until then, keep enjoying the basketball and remember to keep it tuned to lohud.com for all the latest. Thanks again to Kevin and Josh for letting me be a guest on their fabulous blogs. Goodnight!

10:00 p.m. – We have a final. White Plains has defeated North Rockland 41-29 to advance to Sunday’s Class AA girls championship game at 2 p.m. The Tigers will take on top-seeded Mount Vernon – a team it lost to both times during the regular season.

The final score really wasn’t a strong indication to how lopsided this game was. North Rockland scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to White Plains’ 3 to produce the final margin.

9:57 p.m. – Under 1 minute remains and White Plains leads 41-24. Angelei Aguirre just left the game to the roar of the Tigers’ fans in the crowd. White Plains didn’t make a substitution until late in the fourth quarter.

9:52 p.m. – Katie Daly just connected on another 3-pointer for North Rockland. It looks like it’s way too little, way too late for the Red Raiders, who still trail 41-22 with 3:15 to play in the game.

9:51 p.m. – Shenekwa Kellman just made a 3-pointer from the right wing with 4:29 left in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for the Red Raiders, it was their first field goal of the second half.

9:47 p.m. – White Plains still leads 38-16 with 6:15 to play. On a side note, the Tigers still haven’t made a substitution the entire game. If there starting five is tired, then it certainly doesn’t sh

I guess you don’t need more than five players to win?

  2. mike hoops

Nanuet Girls Coach out, rumors he was let go today!!!!!!!

  3. BUCKETBOY

White Plains is a nice team and has started to play well down the stretch but….it’s going to be tough to beat Mt. Vernon with just 5 players. North Rockland didn’t push the ball all that much.

I can see WP needing to go with more of a 1/2 court game and MV will counter with more up tempo pace. If they do 5 players isn’t gonna do it.
Was this the same N Rockland team that beat Ossining???

  4. mv fan

    Great games tonight

  5. WPfan

The Tiger defense came up huge, limiting North Rockland to 15 points in the first half. Incredibly, they surrendered zero points in the third quarter. They also held North Rockland’s leading scorer to two points for the entire game.

  6. The Poo Poo Bandit

Luckily the Bandit was able to catch up on some much needed beauty sleep during yesterday’s girls games.

  7. Smokey

    Poo Poo,

You missed dominant performances from MV and WP.

and please don’t use the word beauty and Bandit in the same sentence. “The beautiful bandit” would be an oxymoron

  8. mike hoops

North Rocklands 3rd quarter was brutal. Worst quarter of basketball I have EVER watched.

2 years in a row NR has been knocked out by a 10 seed!!1

  9. The Poo Poo Bandit

Smokeme like the proverbial face only a mother could love only someone named mv fan or WPfan could think that what we witnessed last night was anything but repugnant and sleep inducing. What I witnessed was not dominant defense but something else entirely. The good news is that a new product for Insomnia called “The Poo Poo Bandit’s Insomnia Elixir” is going to make me a very rich pooper!

  10. mike hoops

Poo Poo bandit might be nuts, but he is right!!

Last night was North Rockland STINKING!! not great WP defense.

North Rocklands offense was terrible!! THe NR coach looked over matched and had not a clue of what to do!

  11. WPfan

It’s true, even though North Rockland put 78 points up against Ossining, with their star player scoring 30, and against White Plains they managed 29 points, with their star player scoring 2 points, it had nothing to do with White Plains playing good defense. It was the coaches fault plain and simple. Thank goodness some of you have the good sense to point out that the kids deserve no credit. At least now you know the truth and you won’t have to waste your time watching these two teams play repugnant, sleep inducing basketball this Sunday.

  12. bball

The Nanuet coach resigned to spend more time with his 4 kids under the age of 6.

  13. ballfan

You have a 14-5 season with Sophmores and you decide now to take care of the kids?

  14. The Poo Poo Bandit

WPfan if there was a dominating performance at County Center in a girls game I didn’t see it. If you are referring to the Mt. Vernon boys yes that was dominating. What I saw was White Plains play a nice defensive game and North Rockland struggle to do anything right offensively. There are many reasons why that happened and one of them was a nice defensive effort by White Plains. North Rockland missed a lot of open shots and forced a lot of shots. I have heard it said by a few people that it is a tough place to shoot and that kids sometimes get a case of nerves down there.

Now if you don’t mind Mrs. Bandit has asked me to forget about basketball and put on a dominating performance of my own, please keep that among friends as this a PG blog!

  15. MIke Hoops

The Nanuet coach was asked to resign!!!!!!!!!

THere is more to this story!!!!!!!

  16. bball

YOu people ar so wrong – maybe you should let the coach have peace and not spit on his reputation.

That what makes the good debate of the blogs disgusting.

    LAST TIME FOR ME.

  17. ballfan

have to agree with mike hoops, more to the story. did all of the assistant coach “resign” too? he have kids under the age of 6?

  18. max

Yes the entire NANUET STAFF is gone!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Nanuet staff is all gone, according to the story I heard.

I heard the assistant even lost his teaching job, can somebody verify? I heard this from a reliable source.

  19. confused

I heard he is a great guy! So maybe he resigned to be with his family. Family is first respect him for that if that is what its al about!

  20. Mike Hoops

i heard he was asked to resign last night (thursday)while attending the MOUNT VERNON girls game, and so was his entire staff.

    Thats the story I heard

  21. confused

I think we should wait to hear it officially he by far is one of the better coaches in the area.

  22. Smokey

    Poo Poo,

I’m sorry that she didn’t make it home last night, I just sent her home now to make breakfast for you.

    Confused,

    The Nanuet coach is gone.

  23. The Poo Poo Bandit

Make me, Mrs. Bandit is cooking my eggs benedict as I write and she is whistling show tunes with a smile that will take four business days to go away. I was that dominant last night!

As for the Nanuet coach no matter what the reason the guy is gone. Do parents have to come here and spit on his grave after he leaves? Is it not enough that you got the guy fired? I don’t know much about him personally but I do know he won the Section 2 years ago. Overzealous parents used to be the minority but unfortunately they are all nuts now save for a few good ones.

  24. ballfan

don’t parents have the right after he has made their daughters feel like mud? Things may look ok on the outside, great team great attitude, my feeling Nanuet girls were good despite him!
