Adams resigns at White Plains

June
29

adams.jpgWell, it was a move we thought may happen and now  it’s official: Sue Adams has resigned as coach at White Plains. Adams will leave after eight seasons to spend more time with her family. (As you know, Kim plays college basketball at Penn. Also, older son Ryan will be a senior, and younger son Kyle is in middle school.)

In such a short time, Adams left quite a legacy at her alma mater. The Tigers won the last four Section 1 Class AA championships and two regional championships, and advanced to consecutive state finals in 2005 and 2006.

I’ll have more on this later.

  1. interesting

So a great coach resigns…. And no one wants to open there trap on it???? Well Sue good luck to you. You are a class act. But if it was about a HS kid wow?? Quiting a team then what or a aau coach… then what??

  2. Josh Thomson

interesting…Aptly put. To compare the two threads is a good indication as to where people's minds are pointed…and that's not in the right direction.

  3. Interested

Would your view be different if Ms. Adams had (a) quit in the middle of the season and (b) went to coach another local team?

  4. draftboy

Yes it would. Apples and orages my friends. Adams resigns during off season to spend more time w/ the family, and you compare it to a player secretly leaving a team during a season???? Sorry people the stories are way too different.

  5. Smokey

Congrats to Sue Adams for a great career at WPHS. She will be missed.

    Simply the Best!!

Over the years we heard about Ursuline and Scarsdale and Lourdes, and Mount Vernon….

    WP!!

    What a job she did!

  7. section one fan

The best coach in section one the last four years period. She proved it this year by out coaching everyone.

  8. WPfan

What Sue did this past year was nothing short of remarkable. She put together a team that consisted of one true superstar, a sophomore center who never touched a basketball until high school, a guard who never played at the varsity level and sat out her junior year with an ACL tear and two guards who sat at the end of the bench the previous year. Due to injuries and kids leaving the team she was down to 2 players on the bench at one point in the season. She then molded that team into a section 1 champion, simply amazing!

Rumor has it that Brianna Jones from RCK is moving to Mt. Vernon!!!

  10. bball fan

Heard Jones was going to Lourdes…not Mt.Vernon.

  11. section one fan

Why isn't the sports program being cut at Mt. Vernon.

  12. Irvington Girls Basketball

Sue Adams has certainly been one of the most outstanding coaches in Section One. Since her beginning days at Edgemont until this past season at White Plains Sue has always coached with dignity, class and great passion.. Everyone at Irvington sends her thanks and good wishes. We hope she and Bob enjoy watching their three wonderful children.

  13. interesting

Amen and thanks to everyone to finally get on track with the good in life. Too short to pick on the bad especially kids…. you get it?

  14. Timster

Great job by Sue over the past 4 years. The first two involved essentially the same team and it was quite a thrill to see them up in Troy for the State finals against some great teams (Nottingham and Rush Henrietta) with fantastic individual players such as Sophrenia Sallard and Shenise Johnson. The last two years were even more special as the team was retooled in year 3 and completely overhauled in year 4 and still managed to compete and ultimately win the section despite competing on a regular basis against quality league opponents Mt. Vernon, Ursuline and Scarsdale as well as other Section I Class AA foes.

  15. Don

    Sue,
You handled yourself with dignity and class. You will be missed. All our best, the Bears

  16. bball

Best coach in section 1!! Best of luck in the future!!
