    Josh,
I am glad to see that things are starting to get going here, I think this year has a chance to be really amazing, there are some really special individual talents in the area this year, and it will be a lot of fun to watch. With the league structuring changing once again the most brutal league around might just be the league with Lourdes, Ossining, Peekskill and Beacon, talk about a league where there are no nights off.

  2. critter

Lourdes Sr. Rachel Crittenden, (not Jillian Crittenden) has had several DII offers. She is leaning towards a few of the many DIII calls,(her top 5 are University of Rochester, Union, Vassar, Ithaca and Haverford) because of the academic standing of the schools, and the majors offered. Another reason is that she will be able to continue with her other interests including voice, music, and possibly rowing crew in the spring semester.

Sorry about the mistake. I just had a brain fart.

  4. aaupop

Hard to believe Tancredi hasn’t gotten some offers from some Division 1 schools She definitely should be d1 bound. Most versatile player in area.

  5. ballboy

Kara Tancredi has received interest from D1 schools such as Vermont, Siena, and some MAC schools. I feel she will get more interest as the year goes on kind of like an Aguirre did last year, she has played with some great players over the past couple of years that have moved on to the college game now.

  6. bbal fan

Jessie Kavana of Mahopac is undecided but is being recruited by Division I NJIT, a couple of DII and many many DIII. Because of academics she is concentrating on the following DIII schools:
Vassar, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Cal Tech, Skidmore, Haverford, Connecticut College, but is still open to NJIT.

  7. love the game

Great job!! All the Section 1 girls seem to be doing great!! Good luck.

  8. h

Have I been asleep and missed something? Does that Lourdes league mean that they are moved back down to A,(where they belong).

  9. love the game

Yes, they are playing against Beacon, Peekskill and such, I think.

  10. baller

what about taylor palmer and shanyce stewart of MVHS..word on the street is that they’re seeing major interest from major programs

  11. ballboy

    H,
No Lourdes will still be in AA come sectional time. Section one basketball leagues are the most stupidly constructed of all sports. In that league for example, Lourdes and Ossining are AA, while Beacon, Peekskill, and Hen Hud are A. Depending on the argument it helps or hurts Lourdes and Ossining. Unless sectional seeding has changed they actually gain less points for beating the class A schools, but not in night out, they will be tested in a brutally hard league. We saw last year come sectional time that it can pay off as it did for Pearl River last year.

  12. Josh Thomson

ballboy…One correction: Teams aren’t hurt by beating smaller schools. They benefit form beating larger schools, that’s all.

  13. ballboy

    Josh,
Sorry you are right there can be no penalty for AA, and being they are the largest classification they can’t earn bonus points anyway. However don’t they only earn 4 points for a victory over a class A team where as they earn 5 points for a victory over a AA team? I know that was the case two years ago when Beacon actually earned the two seed and Pearl River the three seed the year that Lakeland won states. Despite almost identical records Beacon got the higher seed because of more bonus points. This year the argument could be made that despite getting more battle tested that Lourdes will not get the 5 points for beating teams like Arlington, Ketcham, Carmel that they have gotten in the past.

  14. Josh Thomson

Class A’s do earn bonus points for wins over AA, but in your example about it hurting Ossining or Lourdes to play A’s that is not true. Yes, Lourdes would earn a bonus if it was in A still. Ossining never earned bonus points because it has always been in AA.

  15. ballboy

I think that you are misunderstanding me, and I very well could be wrong (and probably am, as my wife often tells me). My understanding was that the breakdown was as follows.
    Class AA- 5 points
    Class A- 4 points
    Class B- 3 points

So if you are a class AA school like Lourdes or Ossining who share a league with Class A schools eventually earning only 4 points for a victory will effect your seeding, when teams like White Plains, New Rochelle, and Mount Vernon play in a league dominated by AA teams

  16. BUCKETBOY

    ballboy
Not sure but I thought there as a point value given to teams above you in classification. +1 for each class up
    i.e.. C beating A = +2 , B over A= +1 The only exception is teams out of section 1 and Catholic (private) schools

Josh had a formula 2 years ago with the wins plus multiplier. I couldn’t find it in old blogs

  17. Josh Thomson

    Bucketboy is correct.

  18. Rich Harrington

ballboy, BUCKETBOY – This point system is a bastardized version of the “Harbin Point System” named after the Ohio football coach who designed the rating (seeding) system. This was done to allow Ohio HS football teams to participate in a single statewide tournament regardless of enrollment without any head to head contests having been played. Three main parts of the real Harbin system 1- 4 points for a win vs a team with comparable enrollment 2- an additional point for a win vs larger enrollment schools (1 point for every class above your own ie BvsA =1+4, BvsAA=1+1+4)and 1 point taken away in the same manner for every win vs a smaller enrollment team. Finally, the total number of points is divided by games played THEN multilplied by a factor 1.2, 1.4 etc. which is based on the strength of schedule. I think Coach Harbin also proved Fermat’s Theory. Very complicated but it is still being used today.

Section 1 needed to use a seeding system based on points after they instituted “equal conferencing” (that’s where a larger enrollment school get’s to kick your *** in your league and Section 1 says it’s OK)and head to head can’t work since these teams play the season in one league and the playoffs in another (?).
Here’s how Section 1 improved the Harbin System – 4 points for each win vs a comparable enrollment school, 1 additional point for a win vs a larger school (BvsA,1+4 BvsAA 2+4 etc.) NO reduction for playing a smaller school just the usual 4 points. No adjustment for strength of schedule if a B team beats either Roosevelt or Lourdes they get the same 6 points. Finally all non-Section 1 games/points DO NOT count in the seedings , win or lose, but DO count in the wins needed to qualify for the playoffs. So some teams divde their point totals by 20 some as low as 16.
Basically it diminishes the important of enrollment numbers and encourages some programs to tweak their schedules and add wins by playing in the 8th grade CYO tournament over at St. Sebastion’s.
If there was no “equal conferencing” we could go back to a Coach’s meeting to determine seedings, none of the coaches have any input under this system it goes strictly by the numbers.
