The teams did not meet during the regular season. The winner this afternoon will meet the winner of tomorrow’s game between Albertus Magnus and Brewster at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday for the Class A gold ball.
For those of you who couldn’t make it to the County Center, you can watch the game here on Mogulus.
Here are the starters:
LAKELAND
Emily Alicea, G, #33
Kristin Pappalardo, G, #3
Vicki Kowalski, G, #14
Kerry Johnson, F, #21
Tori Jarosz, C, #44
PEARL RIVER
Kelly Mulligan, G, #23
Christa Scognamiglio, G, #24
Tara Clinton, G, #13
Taylor Wilson, F, #44
Kerry Sullivan, F, #21
End of the 1st quarter: Lakeland 22, Pearl River 8 — Folks, if you’re not watching it you’ve missed Lakeland play just about the single best quarter I’ve seen all season. Tori Jarosz has been dominant. She has eight points, three rebounds and two blocks, along with a few other altered shots. She has opened up the perimeter. Pearl River has left Vicky Kowalski all alone and she has made the Pirates pay. She has 10 points, including six on 3’s. All four of her baskets are jumpers.
HALFTIME: Lakeland 44, Pearl River 26 — Terrific first half for Lakeland, which is not only big but is much more agile than you’d expect. The Hornets did a good job against Pearl River’s press except for a few minutes. They actually led 36-12 before an 11-0 run by the Pirates. Emily Alicea calmed things down by making 5 of 6 free throws. Jarosz has 16 points, seven rebounds and four blocks so far. Vicky Kowalski has 10 points and Kristin Pappalardo has eight. She picked up her second foul and has sat most of the second quarter. For Pearl River, Taylor Wilson, who always plays so hard, has battled through the frustration of playing against Jarosz. She has nine points and Kelly Mulligan has seven.
End of the 3rd quarter: Lakeland 60, Pearl River 40
FINAL: Lakeland 71, Pearl River 50 — Tori Jarosz finished with 33 points, 18 rebounds and eight blocks. Lakeland will meet either Brewster or Magnus at 5:15 on Sunday for the gold ball.

sound is not working for pr girls vs lakeland. anyone else having problems?
yes same thing. no sound
no sound her either josh get us sound!
None here either.
Love the three refs..the stuff Pearl River usually gets away with on defense, riding the offensive player bumping with the body,no hands or reaching, is not working.
Plus that Lakeland team is so fundamentally sound, and that Tori player is good..wish we got to see more of her.
can we get sound
No sound, the score doesn’t get updated with game progress, and there’s no timeclock on the crawl. Nice to see the players run up and down the court, but it doesn’t offer a clue about what’s actually happening…
When is section 1 going to wake up and get some real officials who will let the players play.
It should be a game, not a free-throw shooting contest
josh
Seems like they are calling way too many fouls on both sides. No game continuity whatsoever. Let them play!!!! No sound for me either!!
thanks josh and it was amazing half for lakeland and tori! even without sound.
I may take back the “love the three refs”. Could not figure out the PR girl fouled out? Handed the Lakeland foul shooter the ball twice, and held up the game for quite a few minutes..Glad this is a blowout, because imagine the mess if it was a close one?
The 3 ref system is a NIGHTMARE plus these 3 STINK
Just saw Tori for the first time—-Best Player in Sect 1!!
60, 70, 80 free throws????
maybe the players should learn how to play the game without fouling, then u can kiss the foul shooting contest goodbye, 3 person system makes for more of a pure game, cannot make up ur mind can u, what is going to be 2 or 3 person games, either way you still moan, maybe if you haven’t noticed skill set for girls basketball is way down and players have less skills and body control to play the game. Guess they need to practice more skill related drills to increase their skills and not too mention their conditioning needs major improving…
I’ve been to 4 games so far and the 3 refs change the flow of the games too much. Too many fouls on both teams which changes the way the games were played all regular season. Also the 2nd game is behind scheduled due to 70+ FTs.
Lakeland was just too tall for PR and it seemed they couldn’t miss the basket. Tori Jarosz is the Real Deal and the AM/Brewster winner better have a plan to contain her.
And to the Obnoctious, Screaming, Angry Lakeland father(?)wearing a tie behind me last night…. Calm down, your team was up 25 with less than 5 minutes to go. You were an embarrassment to yourself and to the nice Lakeland woman who tried to calm you down.
GO FALCONS!!!!!!
i guess you missed the jersey pulling and bumping that the lakeland girl did some elbows too the refs missed them too
moe larry and curly would have been a better choice to don striped shirts those three refs were a disgrace to their fellow refs i hope those in authority with half a brain who choose those who officiate the games never let those men on a county court again
i was suprised with the score of this game…i thought it was supposed to be a close one. the lakeland girls came out ready to play and did just that, they out played pearl river in every aspect of the game. they also did a pretty good job of breaking down that press. vickie kowalski set the tempo of this game with the 1st three and tori, kristin and the rest of the team followed through. this was by far the best game i personally have seen lakeland play this year. tori jarosz really came through for her team despite all the pressure. also, emily alicea did a great job despite her inexperience as a freshman. pearl river is a great team and had a good run this season and also played well last night. they played hard till the end and unfortunately for them they just could not catch up. cant wait till sunday. lets go land
I guess you Pearl River fans were wishing Marty Meaney, your hometown hero was the ref…
I’ve been to every girls game at the center and it’s been very exciting. The complaining about the refs have to stop. Not one game was decided by the refs and it’s really taking away from the great play of these girls. Who cares how many refs there are as long as the games are being called fair and they are. Teams have to learn to play with fouls and to play with certain players in foul trouble it’s all part of the game. It’s actually nice to see that certain players and teams who ref’s favor all year are getting the calls against them. Let the girls play and enjoy the games.
the refs should not be used as an excuse. they arent going anywhere. yes they should let the girls play but the girls need to watch it and adjust to the types of refs they have.
If this is true then Walker should be out by halftime!! Let’s see if the godess gets the calls against her. Her and others made fools of themselves at the Briarclif/Nanuet game her coaches and teammates should be embarassed. If you manage to get by Brewster, Lakeland and Tori will destroy you and trust me a lot of people will be very very happy.
good luck lakeland your team played a perfect game last night let’s hope you can bring that same game with you on sunday i agree with yeah- walker should be out by the half with legit fouls not ticky tacky ones- her mouth runs the whole game, cursing and taunting, and all she gets is a warning. go lakeland!
lady pirates you had a great season it was fun watching you grow as a team i can’t wait until next season you should be very proud we are
pr,
Your true colors are showing—ENVIOUS GREEN. If Walker played for Pear River, you’d be applauding her intensity. Lighten up, watch and enjoy.
walker is a very good player i enjoy watching her however she does foul and flops when no one is near her she gets the calls for that but not the holding or nasty mouth she doesn’t need to do that she can play and deserves the praise the rest just takes a little away from her as a person
Lakeland and Pearl River played a great game. Although I was surprised that Pearl River cound not shut down Tori- earlier in the season I watched them contain Minisink Valley’s 6’5 girl and win by 29. Maybe they should have used the same game plan. Good luck to Lakeland and Pearl River you will come back better than ever-next year.
by the way not from pearl river just a fan of girl’s bball enjoy watching chesterman, jentzen, wilson, tancredi, blair, jaroz, etc and walker without the antics good luck to both teams may the best team win
Wow, what a great game to watch last night. I’m glad I ended up going. Lakeland played near unstoppable. Jarosz obviously couldn’t be stopped with girls so much shorter, and came down with 18 rebounds: Now THATS what I call a true post player. Also, it was fun watching Kowalski back! With 10 points, she was the catalyst to that game. Point guard, don’t know her name?, handled pressure pretty well. Pappalardo worked very hard, and had some dirty plays. Pearl River fans behind me were saying she is the dirtiest player in Section 1. I say Lakeland over A.M. by 10.
lakeland,
i guess pearl river fans were frustrated. The WHOLE team played great. And Pappalardo had a great game offensively and defensively. Solid player! They can’t win without her or Kowalski.
Areyoukidding,
In my opinion, from what I’ve seen of both girls, Jarosz seems to be harder to contain than Dolson from MV. She has the ability to move and handle the ball like a guard, making her unstoppable. Very talented player with a bright future.
After watching Lakeland PR and MV Vs PR I would have to say Lakeland is the much better team. For those that think PR played well last night I have to disagree a great shooting team with zero 3’s? The shots were just not falling. All in all a very good season for such a young team. Magnus has to have the perfect game plan to beat Lakeland. Tori is probably one of the best big girls in the state.
!@#$%,
Tori is awesome, with passion, heart and love for the game! Lakeland would be just alright without her! With her, they are pretty much unstoppable!
To Pr Alaina has never cursed on the court and for u to say that is irresponsible. Are U on the court because she plays
a tough game and they are allways holding her kicking her when she is on the floor and i do have video of these incidents and I am not saying who but they know who they are. If you would like to talk to me about it just come by at the game. People like you have hated on her for years and it needs to stop. She works hard and hard work pays off.
try using your real name if you have the guts.
Just my opinion,
I didn’t say they wouldn’t be alright without out her. I was stating she’s harder to stop than Dolson from MV. Don’t know where you’re coming from??
You can’t even praise anybody on this blog without hearing it from the peanut gallery!!
!@#$%,
I am sorry, my bad, I was just agreeing with you. Didn’t mean to single you out.
Just my opinion,
No problem. Just didn’t want it to seem like I thought that Lakeland would be less without Jarosz, because after watching last night’s game, I see that each player contributes a vital part in making the team very successful.
!@#$% – I think I just wanted to see if I could duplicate your name…haha.
Every player on Lakeland plays AAU, just goes to show how much that means to a player and team…Go Lakeland
Just my opinion,
It’s just my opinion that Lakeland will win over AM in the championship! lol Good Luck!!!
What Ias saying is I think the big girl from MV has a few inches on Tori- Pearl River really has no height and they contained her by their defense and forcing her to run. I agree Tori has better ball handeling and foot speed- making her hard to guard. But Pearl River got the job done and beat them by 29 to Pearl Rivers credit. Good luck to Lakeland they seem like the team to beat.
Yeah,
I assume you were talking about the AM girls dressed in Briarcliff orange to support their buddies, and fellow AAU players. I guessed that really ticked you off. I have a feeling you were the out of control fan carrying on and screaming at the AM girls “that they are not #1 Nanuet is”. You also came up with the tasteful statement when Maggie Blair was hurt “that she was faking it” So the AM players told you to shut up. You should admire them for saying what most parents and players sitting around you were thinking. Go learn something from the classy Nanuet players and coaches, trust me you can use it along with some anger management.
lhs1,
I agree. With a star like Jarosz, there will be many games that she is struggling. That’s where Pappalardo, Kowalski, point guard?, and Johnson come in. Lakeland really does have it all. Anyone know where Jarosz is headed to college? And what about the others?
TORI BEAST FROM THE EAST NO STOPING HER GO TORI!!!!!!!!!!
