Five Section 1 players on Metro Classic roster

October
22

I have a few things to report, but first up is this: The sixth annual Metro Classic will be played on Sunday at 2 at Christ the King in Queens.

Five Section 1 players were selected for The Burbs, which take on The Boros, a team that consists of players from New York’s five boroughs. Felicia DaCruz (Albertus Magnus), Brittany Horne (Carmel), Tori Jarosz (Lakeland), Lillian McCabe (Rye) and Taneka Whittaker (Lourdes) will compete for The Burbs, which has won the last three meetings.

That group of locals will be joined by two of this region’s top seniors: Stefanie Dolson of Minisink (UConn) and Bria Hartley of North Babylon (uncommitted). One thing of particular note: Of the local players who made the team, only Jarosz is a senior.

If you’re interested in checking out the game (the boys follow at 4), you can log on to the Metro Classic website here. Tickets are available for $10.

Felicia DaCruz is one of the most outstanding players that I have seen to date. If I had to make a choice about any of the stronger, more talented players in our division I would have to go with her hands down. The girl is an absolute thrill to watch. Most players have one or two special things they bring to the table, DaCruz has it all. Good luck to all the girls representing Westchester..

t’s official: Bria Hartley to UConn
Bria Hartley, ranked No. 14 in 2010 by ESPN HoopGurlz, made her commitment to Connecticut official by informing Husky coaches on Monday evening, according to her club coach, Apache Paschall of Exodus NYC.

The 5-foot-7 point guard from North Babylon, N.Y., just returned from an official visit to Storrs, Conn., for the Super Show with four previously committed recruits, plus 2011 recruit Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, who committed to Connecticut this weekend.

Hartley joins four other ranked prospects in coach Geno Auriemma’s 2010 recruiting class—No. 10 Samarie Walker, No. 39 Stefanie Dolson, No. 46 Michala Johnson, and No. 95 Lauren Engeln.

Kentucky probably was the biggest rival for Hartley’s commitment, though Georgetown and Tennessee also were among her finalists. Close friend and training partner Jennifer O’Neill of the Bronx, N.Y., committed to Kentucky during an official visit to Lexington this weekend.
