Rockland County Championship tiebreakers

January
28

OK, I have hopefully locked down how the participants for next week’s Rockland County Championship will be determined in the event of a tie:

1. Head to head
2. Overall record
3. Common opponents

The key here is overall record. In all likelihood, if two teams are tied — like Suffern and Clarkstown North, for example — the tie will be broken by overall record. Currently, the Rams own a one-game lead on Suffern, 8-6 to 7-7. That said, if Suffern pulls out the win, they will likely finish the regular season tied, forcing the third tiebreaker.

It could be fascinating.

    Josh,

Will there be some kind of Wetschester Championship next year?

I could see getting the top 8 teams in Westchester and holding a 3 round event.

    This year you could have
    Briarcliff
    Mount Vernon
    Irvington
    JFK
    Peekskill
    Hen Hud
    Lakeland
    Ossining
battle it out for Westchester County Championship.

Have teams apply to get in, and based on Section I records teams get in.

    Josh,

Thank you for promoting the Rockland County Championship game on Saturday, February 6th. Back in the 80’s and 70’s this was a big time event! I can remember being at Rockland Community College with a packed house when Pearl River defeated Spring Valley for the “bragging rights” in Rockland!

I am delighted to see the return of Championship Games again in Rockland!

    Good Stuff!

I have to agree with what an earlier poster said. It would be a true Rockland County Championship if the two best teams were playing, but unfortunately, North or Suffern aren’t even in the top 4 in Rockland and that’s a shame. It should be PR and either Nanuet (if Kahn returns) or Albertus.

I’m wondering if the person Saying North has no right being in the finals and Albertus does happened to be at the North-Albertus game when they played in December. North was ahead the entire game. It was not a blow-out by any means. North keeps improving. The next time they meet up with Albertus you might see a different outcome. As far as Nanuet, I agree. They are by far a better team than most in Rockland. Either way, I’m hoping for some big surprises in the Rockland County playoffs.

In New jersey all teams with a positive record qualify for the county championships. Like in Bergen county there are 32 teams that play over the next 5 weekends. One game elimination. With the 5th week being championship weekend played at Ramapo College.

  7. nxyear

Yes, Nanuet is a strong team but what will happen next year???

Next year is a long way away! Enjoy the run as long as it last!!

  9. Rockland HOOPS

Now with Albertus Magnus losing to Nyack on friday-Pearl River is assured of a league title and will have to face off vs the 4th or 5th best team in Rockland for the “Rockland County Championship”-who will step up to the challenge to play Rocklands top team Clarkstown North or Suffern…lets get yer done

  10. Mama Hoops

now with my top choice out of it I hope Pearl River exerts it’s dominance and destroys Clarkstown North(or Suffern if they can pull the win out)

  11. PaPa Hoops

    To MaMa Hoops,
Now why would you be so kind as to hope for a killing to Clarkstown North or Suffern? That does not sound so “MaMa Like”. I thought MaMa’s wanted the BEST for all kids. It would be nice of you to just hope for a nice game for all of the girls involved. It is not the girls fault the way the County set up the playoffs. I guess your team is out of it because of your negative behavior. Too bad!!

  12. Mountie Hoops

anybody have Albertus & Nanuets records..Josh….just wondering

Navigate from LoHud site but you have to add when AM went to the Jugglers Classic in Utica. Lost to Camden and won vs Indian River. Don’t know about bonus points you’ll have to check as both teams are in NY. AM didn’t do Nanuet any favors by loss to Nyack the Knights need all the bonus points they can get to be seeded higher than Kennedy.

  14. PaPa Hoops

    To Mama Hoops,
It does not sound too motherly of you to hope for a destruction of North or Suffern. It would be nice of “Mama” to wish the best for all players involved. Sounds like you are a sore loser. What a shame!

  15. Mountie Hoops

    Fan thanks for the link

    Mountie Hoops,

I should have included this site which you may already know. LoHud is not always correct so i use this to double check. You can navigate to teams , leagues etc. but only some of the coaches enter their results – Nanuet is one who does.

  17. Mountie Hoops

yeah not all coaches use maxpreps but know about that one already..thanks

  18. HD

If the Journal News doesn’t replace Josh (now that he’s the boys reporter) real fast, perhaps more coaches will revert to Maxpreps which is a far better product than the High School Sportsnet.

  19. Mountie Hoops

probably not as High school sportsnet gets their stats right from Journal News(no one goes out of there way to send them there)whil max preps has to be sent from coach and some coaches still havent entered the internet age and don’t send in stats or results-they only do what is required(home team calls in score and stats)

  20. Fan

The High School Sportsnet site is owned by the parent company of the Journal News – Gannett. That’s the reason behind the switch from Maxpreps. Mountie is right, it has/had nothing to do with Josh.

  21. And One

This new system could get complicated!
