Scholastic girls will play for gold

July
26

All Hudson Valley needed to do in today's game against Central was not allow 79 points. It could lose by 40 and still play for gold as long as the score was 78-38. That's the advantage of a perfect record.

Turns out HV won anyway, 67-62. The reward? Another meeting with Central, which apparently did enough [...]

Class C championship: Haldane vs Madrid-Waddington

March
16

Shields is the MVP, finishing with 23 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. Emily Marsh won the sportsmanship award. Zuvic also won all-tournament.

3:21: After a bunch of free throws the clock finally runs out. Haldane is the state champion of Class C, 46-36. What a capper for Shields. I don't think there will be a [...]

No one called anyone fat

March
15

As I was leaving the court area today with the Haldane crowd I heard an interesting exchange. It was between a man and woman, Haldane supporters both. The Blue Devils had just beaten the stuffing out of Cooperstown 63-49. Here's the gist of the exchange.

Man: Did you hear what they said about us in the [...]

March
14

So the Class B championship is tomorrow at 4 p.m. back here at HVCC. The Bears will face either Hoosic Valley or Nazareth, who are playing right now.

The final stats are reflective of this stilted game. Only one player—Torto of Seton—cracked double figures. Coon led the Bears with eight and 12 boards. Weiner and [...]

Final thoughts on Pearl River

March
8

Just wanted to do a post-mortem on Pearl River. Yesterday, for those who weren't at Pace or didn't read my game story, the Pirates fell to Cornwall in a regional final. It was a tale of two halves, for both teams really. Cornwall shot the lights out in the first half. Pearl River looked very slow [...]
