Here’s the latest podcast, but this one has a twist.
We taped it in the operations center here at The Journal News. Thanks to our tech wiz Greg Weber, this is a suped-up edition of The Sixth Man podcast.
Enjoy…
The podcasts are coming fast and furiously lately thanks to Joe Lombardi, who must like the sound of his own voice or something.
Seriously though, Joe asked for my first public comments since I gave an incorrect prediction in the Mahopac tournament, the same tournament he correctly predicted Scarsdale to win. I’ll say this: Maybe I outsmarted Joe. Maybe I actually thought Scarsdale would win, but concocted the whole idea so he could think he won the bet all while me and the lady got to spend the rare Saturday night together. I wonder if he ever considered that?
(Even though I probably questioned Scarsdale’s consistency, but still…)
Anyway, enough of that. Here’s what Joe and I discuss in this week’s podcast:
Haldane at North Salem tomorrow, including Brittany Shields’ nearing the program scoring record I predicted she’d break on Jan. 14, 2006, when she had 800 career points.
 Briarcliff at Kennedy, also tomorrow
OLV at Maria Regina on Friday
Next Monday, which features Ursuline at Mount Vernon and Nanuet at Woodlands
We, again, offer a couple predictions, with Joe Lo hoping his will stick
Enjoy…
Joe Lombardi and I sat down for a late-night podcast. We could’ve belabored on the final minute of Scarsdale-Ursuline, which was interesting to say the least, but instead we discussed the following:
Meghan Murphy and Nadia Duncan topping the 1,000-point mark
 Ursuline vs. Scarsdale
 Magnus winning the Nanuet tourney
Upcoming games: Byram Hills vs. Edgemont and Pelham vs. Woodlands
Plus: Our predictions for Mahopac tourney winners
I just sat down with sports editor Joe Lombardi, fan of the very Dayton Flyers, top 25-ranked, who were slayed last night by Mount Vernon’s own Chris Lowe. We taped another podcast, in which you can listen to us discuss the following:
 Mount Vernon-Ursuline
 Irvington-Pearl River
The race between Albertus Magnus and Nanuet for the League III-C title
A few bizarre items, like Angelei Aguirre scoring 33 of her team’s 34 points vs. Yorktown and Scarsdale’s futile but successful 30-22 win over Mamaroneck last week
And my thoughts on why you can’t count out Scarsdale and/or Pelham in their games against Ursuline (next Tuesday) and Woodlands (next Friday), respectively.
Joe and I also make our pitch as to why you should listen (and call in) to tonight’s Varsity Central Extra.
Stop it, you all know you love my self-promotion…
Here’s the podcast I conducted today with local sports editor Joe Lombardi. We discuss some of the big happenings over the last few days, then take a look ahead to next week’s action…including a not-so-bold prediction.
Here’s my interview from tonight on the following:
1. Mount Vernon’s 58-42 win over White Plains, and…
2. The overall state of her team after Monday’s nail-biter against Maria Regina
I just sat down with local sports editor Joe Lombardi for our first podcast of the season. Please give it a listen and let us know what you think.
Among the topics for discussion:
 Some big games this week
 Early storylines
A look ahead to next week’s two big tournaments
I caught up with Mary Abrams last night after North Rockland’s 56-54 loss to Ursuline in its season opener. Abrams had 19 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks despite playing with a heavily bandaged left wrist. She hurt her wrist in a fall at practice last week and it hurt after a fall during the second quarter last night that she had to leave the game for the rest of the first half.
In the clip I ask Mary about the game, her wrist, and why she chose LIU. Enjoy…
One of many new weekly features here at The Sixth Man has arrived: The 60-second profile.
The way the 60-second profile will work is that each week I’ll catch up with a player or a coach and ask them a few questions. I’ll then post the audio from the interview on the blog. Sound simple? Good. I hope you enjoy it.
Our first 60-second profile of the season discusses the reappearance on the Section 1 scene of Ossining senior Kiki Shelton. As you probably know, she missed almost the entire basketball season last year after suffering a torn ACL in December. Shelton return during last Thursday’s loss to Briarcliff and in our profile she talks about what it meant to be back on the court.
